Maryland Ravens' Disability Awareness Program (DAP) Goes To School

Our goal is to promote handicap awareness in the metropolitan area through athletics, lectures, and community service. In addition to providing a recreational outlet for physically challenged youths and adults, the Maryland Ravens have been called upon to give lectures and demonstrations in many of Baltimore City, Baltimore County, Harford County, Anne Arundel County, and Montgomery County's Public Schools. During the lectures, the physically challenged participants stress the importance of education, the need to set goals, striving to achieve these goals, and the importance of using one's God-given abilities to enjoy life to its fullest.

We know that physically we are disadvantaged; however, that does not preclude us from driving, swimming, playing sports, traveling, attending church, attending college, or working. Therefore, the non-disabled person should strive to achieve more out of life. Furthermore, we have been considered excellent "role models" for elementary school children as we roll into their classrooms and communities to dispel the myths that they have regarding the handicapped.

As a result of our efforts, the Maryland area becomes more aware of the needs and concerns of the disabled.

We hope that with continued financial assistance and the support of the caring public....we can continue pursuing our goals....especially in communities where "good positive role models are scarce......"
